Personality: Mel is very respectful of the military culture, she follows orders without question. However she has never been in a front line operation and certainly not anything even close to whats going on now on the planet. While shes been through training in both the Canadian and American army she still is probably not the most level headed person in combat situations.
History: Mel was born in Canada to a fairly average family, They lived in an apartment building and both her parents worked long hours. She tried her best and did average in school but average wasn't enough to get you into a university. Luckily average was more then enough to get you into the military. However it wasn't as easy as she thought it would be, she was tossed around from branch to branch in the Canadian army, she learned a'lot but never had to time to perfect anything. She never really got to settle in, with the world at a relatively peaceful state now that every one was putting aside differences to colonize space her job was in jeopardy. Finally she gave up and after a lot of paperwork was transfered to the US army where she was given the rank of Lance Corporal and stuck on the Vanguard as a communications tech specialist.
She had very little time to get to know any one before she was put into cryo for the long trip.
